The IFilter is compatible with indexing services based on the Microsoft Search technology: Microsoft Indexing Service, Windows Desktop Search, Microsoft SharePoint Portal etc. JPEG IFilter extends the services capabilities to index the JPEG files (extensions JPG, JPEG, JPE, JFIF) and to perform content search for them. JPEG IFilter extracts the EXIF metadata.

This EXIF info is put there by some digital cameras and includes mayn useful information, including the time and date when the picture was taken.
