Tricyclic antidepressants are a type of antidepressant that has been used since the mid 1900s. Today, there are more than 30 different types of tricyclic antidepressants that are commonly used in cases of attention-deficit hyperactive disorder (ADHD) and depression. The antidepressant works by changing the way that certain neurotransmitters function in the brain in order to alter a person?s mood.
